These small groups allow you to receive individualized Instructor coaching on your own project, as well as learn from what others are doing. Knitters of all levels find these General Knitting groups fun, supportive and very creative.
You will find yourself trying new techniques with the certainty of knowing the Instructor – and your fellow knitters – have your back! Guaranteed to provide you with lots of fun and plenty of new skills – plus some new friends to boot.
Learn how to knit and join the growing group of Portland knitters. PDX is a knitter’s paradise, so come learn the basics so you too can enjoy this very Zen & productive activity.
You will learn all the basics in this class – how to cast on, knit, purl and bind off. You will also be introduced to patterns and how to read them.
Learn how to crochet – it’s not your Grandmothers crochet anymore! Crochet is trending up, with lots of hip new patterns available.
You will learn all the basic crochet stitches – chain stitch, as well as single and double crochet. You will also be introduced to patterns and how to read them.
Learn to weave! This four week class is for Beginners, where you will learn how to set up and use your loom, plus choose yarns for weaving. Instruction will focus on how to weave for great results – yeah!
Experienced weavers can also enjoy learning to use a Rigid Heddle Loom – because don’t you want to have “portable weaving” become possible?!
In this small group class you will have hands-on help every step of the way. First project is your choice of a woven scarf or cowl, with samples and recommended yarns to ensure your success. You will also receive a helpful list of terms, suggested resources, and a step-by-step guide to the process that will take you from “What can I make?” to “Wow! Look what I made!”
Please note you will need to have – or buy – a Rigid Heddle Loom to participate. Northwest Wools is happy to assist with Special Ordering your Loom by providing you with a “Student Discount” – once you are registered for the class.
Are you interested in learning to spin – or taking your spinning to a higher level? Do you want to experiment with spinning new fibers? If so, this is the class for you!
Come join an experienced and knowledgeable instructor who can teach you the Zen of spinning. She will work with each student individually, providing coaching and advice directed at your needs.
Twice a month we open our classroom up for Open Spinning time. This is a great way to visit with fellow spinners and share techniques and tips. So bring your wheel or drop spindle and hang out with your fellow fiber artists!
Learn the basics of Wet Felting at this fun, hands-on class! Your instructor will guide you through the steps while helping with color and design choices. You’ll be amazed at how these soft fibers hold together when subjected to hot water!
This beginning-level class will provide you with the skills you need to create all sorts of felted items.
See Yarns & Fibers page for listing of yarns and fibers we carry for felters. We have the largest roving selection in the Portland area – and a huge color selection of yarns that are great for successful felting.
These sessions are for when you want one-on-one instruction – or need some extended time to help solve a project problem.
They are also good when class schedules are just not working for you – and you need to set up a more convenient time for project help or learning new skills & techniques. These can be booked in 1 hour or 30 minute increments.
We offer a wide and changing selection of Specialty Workshops. From “Design and Knit Your Own Sweater,” “Next Steps in Rigid Heddle Weaving,” “Brioche Knitting,” “Using Technology in Your Fiber Arts,” “How to Fix Your Mistakes,” “Finishing Techniques,” “Two-hand Fair Isle,” “SAORI-style Weaving,” and more – you’ll find lots of workshops to “up your game”.
