Knitting for Neighbors

We are excited to partner with Neighborhood House for a donation drive and ingathering of hand-crafted hats, scarves, mittens and blankets for the neighbors they help.

Neighborhood House provides a range of services to reduce hunger and homelessness in the community. They operate a food pantry and a Senior Center in Multnomah Village, as well as the Children’s Center at the Stephens Creek Crossing affordable housing community. Their programs help more than 8,000 low-income children, families and seniors of all ethnicities across the greater Portland area.

Between Monday, November 8, and Saturday, November 13, everyone who makes a donation of $25 or more to Neighborhood House, or who donates a hand-crafted blanket, hat, scarf, or pair of mittens, will be entered to win a prize basket donated by Northwest Wools. The basket’s theme is “Learn to Knit,” and it will include yarn, needles and a one-hour private lesson with one of our Shop Instructors. What a great gift this will make – for a friend or yourself!

Hand-knit or crocheted items can be dropped off at either Northwest Wools or Neighborhood House (7780 SW Capitol Hwy). Cash donations will be collected solely at Neighborhood House.

Additionally, the first 30 people who donate $50 or more to Neighborhood House will receive a free skein of yarn donated by Northwest Wools as a small “thank you” for their contribution.

Neighborhood House will host a virtual kickoff for Knitting for Neighbors on November 8 at 5:00 pm. You can RSVP for this event here.

And we’ve got another way for you to donate to Neighborhood House as well: a new pattern and pattern kit! The “Knitting for Neighbors Scarf” is made with Berroco’s Ultra Alpaca Chunky yarn. The pattern is simple and easily memorized, making it great for TV knitting. Northwest Wools will donate 30% of proceeds from the sale of the “Knitting for Neighbors Scarf” kit to Neighborhood House through the end of the year. If you choose to purchase the pattern on its own, the entire purchase price of the pattern will be donated to Neighborhood House.

We hope you’ll join us in supporting Neighborhood House and all the services that they provide!
