Summer Knit Along

Summer Knit Along

Wednesdays, 6:30-8:00pm
July 10-August 14

We had so much fun with last summer’s Knit Along, we decided to do it again!

This year’s pattern is “Oak Park,” by Laura Aylor, available for sale on Ravelry. Don’t be intimidated by all the color – the pattern is created with modular knitting, where you add new blocks of color by picking up stitches along the edges of what you’ve already knit. We’re looking forward to trying out this technique!

The pattern includes instructions for both a cowl and a scarf, so you can pick the item that’s more appealing to you.

There is no charge to participate in the Knit Along. Just bring your supplies and prepare to make some new fiber friends. You are welcome to use yarn from your stash, but if you choose to purchase something new, you’ll receive a 10% discount during Knit Along hours.

Our Summer Knit Along will be led again by our talented Staffer Marguerite. She’s very excited about this pattern and it’s unique technique. And she’s definitely looking forward to spending fun and relaxing Wednesday evenings with you!

We all look forward to knitting with you this summer!

Mother’s Day First Friday

Come celebrate Mother's Day with Northwest Wools this First Friday!Friday, May 3, 2019
2:00-6:00 pm

We’re kicking off May with a celebration of Mothers! In conjunction with our next-door neighbors, Uptown Property Management, we’re hosting an afternoon of pampering.

Stop by the shop between 2:00 and 6:00 pm for a free, 10-minute hand massage, courtesy of Nancie Hines, MA, of Portland Reflexology. This is a wonderful opportunity to give some extra love to those hands that do so much for everyone else.  Nancie is a National Board-Certified Reflexologist, so she really knows her stuff!   And if you enjoy your intro to Reflexology, Portland Reflexology has their offices right here in Multnomah Village!

Come get a relaxing massage at Northwest Wools.
We’ll also be showing our appreciation for Moms by raffling off a prize basket! No purchase is necessary, but you must be a Mother to enter. Take some time for yourself, Moms: Relax with a hand massage, enter to win a prize, and enjoy the afternoon and evening at this First Friday event.

We look forward to seeing you on May 3rd!

Local Yarn Store Day

Local Yarn Store Day

Join us for Local Yarn Store Day!Saturday, April 27, 2019
10:00 am to 5:00 pm

Join us on Local Yarn Store Day and remind yourself why shopping at your local yarn store is so awesome!

Come in and see all the colors live and in person. Feel the difference between merino wool and alpaca. Listen to your fellow shoppers discuss their latest projects. Soak in all that fiber goodness, and the enthusiasm of your fellow crafters.

Your Local Yarn Store (LYS) is the place to commune with your tribe of fellow fiber artists. It’s the one place where people really get you. You don’t need to explain to us why making things with yarn is so fascinating, we completely understand!

And most of all, it’s the place where friendly and knowledgeable staff will help you fix your mistakes, read a pattern, pick out a new project, commiserate with you on your difficulties and celebrate your crafting wins. We are your biggest fiber art cheerleaders and we love being here to help you out!

In appreciation of you – our fabulous, loyal customers – we are staging a “Rigid Heddle-In.” We wanted to give you the chance to try out this hot new craft! Rigid Heddle Weaving is a great fiber art to add if you are already a knitter or crocheter – it lets you use your existing stash of yarns in a cool new way. Unlike standard looms, Rigid Heddle looms are easy to learn – and they’re small and portable! We’ll have several Rigid Heddle looms set up so you can try out this popular new craft for yourself. As Crafters, we all know that nothing beats a “hands on” opportunity! And experienced Weavers will be on hand to demonstrate and help you try it out.

Also as part of our Local Yarn Store Day celebration, we are offering a special “Ravelry Top to Bottom” class, led by guest instructor Debbi Stone. If you have always wanted to learn how to use Ravelry to its full potential, this is the class for you! The class is designed so that no matter which device you use to go to Ravelry (computer, tablet or phone) you’ll be able to navigate the inner working of the site and find everything you need! Click here for more info about this Specialty Class.

Please note: Advanced registration and payment are required for this class.

So join us for a day of celebrating our small, local and personal LYS, as well as the large community of fiber artists everywhere! We’ll have raffles throughout the day for fabulous gifts, free patterns, and lots of fiber fun!

See you on April 27th!

Toots LeBlanc & Co. Pop-up Shop

Michele and Mike Dillon of Toots LeBlanc and Co. Yarns.  Michele custom blends these un-dyed, all natural yarns for a unique, self-haloing effect.

Sunday, March 10th
10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Michele LeBlanc Dillon and Mike Dillon of Toots LeBlanc & Co. Yarns will be with us Sunday for a one-day Pop-up Shop. Michele purchases wool from small family farmers throughout the West Coast and custom blends the fibers to create her unique, undyed yarns.  We are sad to say this Event at Northwest Wools will be the last for Michele, as she will be retiring from yarn-making after these many years.  So please do stop by to say good-bye to Michele and to purchase some of her very special yarns directly from her for the last time.  Northwest Wools will continue to carry Toots LeBlanc & Co. yarns until we run out of our inventory.

Michele learned to spin in her early twenties, which led to a deeper awareness of the qualities of different types of wool and the purposes for which they are best-suited. Each batch of wool she purchases for her yarns is hand cleaned, sorted and inspected for color and fiber content. Fibers are custom blended to create a unique yarn. The wool is then minimally processed without the use of harsh detergents or chemicals, and spun into yarn at a local Oregon mill.

Toots LeBlanc yarns are undyed, letting the beauty of the animals’ natural colors speak for itself. Because animals and their coats change from year to year, the same “color” will not look the same from one season to the next. For this reason, Michele dates her yarns so you can match colors by their “fleece lots.”  Michele’s yarns also have a natural “halo” effect, creating super soft and lovely projects.

We are thrilled at the chance to offer you some of these exquisite yarns. Quantities are limited, so come early for best selection – especially since this is your last chance to purchase directly from Michele.
