Specialty Classes

1 of 3

Regular Classes

Beginning Knitting

Learn how to knit and join the growing community of Portland knitters.

You will learn all the basics in this class — how to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off. You will also be introduced to patterns and how to read them. This class happens twice per month.

Beginning Crochet

Learn how to crochet, and take part in the recently re-invigorated crochet trend!

You will learn all the basic crochet stitches — chain stitch, singles, and doubles. You will also be introduced to patterns and how to read them. This class happens once per month.

Rigid Heddle Weaving

Learn to weave! This two-week class is for both beginners and continuing students. In six hours of classroom instruction, you will learn how to set up and use your loom, choose appropriate yarns for weaving and how to finish your woven projects. Experienced floor or table loom weavers can also enjoy learning to use a portable rigid heddle loom, so they can take projects on-the-go.

You'll have hands-on help every step of the way in this class. Your first project might be a woven scarf, table mat, or fabric for a bag or pillow cover. Continuing students will receive assistance with any project they have on the loom. You will also receive a helpful list of weaving terms, suggested resources, and a list of recommended reference books or videos.

You will need to have a rigid heddle loom to participate. We're happy to special order your loom from Ashford, and we provide a student discount once you are registered for class.

Wheel Spinning

Are you interested in learning to spin — or taking your spinning to a higher level? Do you want to experiment with spinning new fibers? If so, this is the class for you!

Come join an experienced and knowledgeable instructor who can teach you the joy of spinning. They will work with each student individually, providing coaching and advice directed at your needs.

General Knitting

Join a group of fellow knitters in an interactive environment. Bring your own project, or an idea for a new project you'd like to start.

These small groups allow you to receive individualized instructor coaching, as well as learning from what others are doing. You will find yourself trying new techniques knowing that the instructor, and your fellow knitters, have your back! Students of all levels find these groups fun, supportive, and creative.

General Crochet

Bring your own crochet project, or supplies and an idea for a new project you'd like to start.

These small groups allow you to receive individualized instructor coaching, as well as learning from what others are doing. You will find yourself trying new techniques knowing that the instructor, and your fellow crocheters, have your back! Students of all levels find these groups fun, supportive, and creative.

Private Lessons

We have private lessons available if you’d prefer one-on-one time with an instructor. Please provide us with your availability and we’ll connect you with an instructor to settle on a date and time.

Private lesson fees are paid directly to the instructor via cash, check, or money app. We’re sorry, but we are unable to accept credit or debit cards for private lesson payments. Private lessons require a deposit to schedule; please make sure to bring an appropriate payment method to book your lesson and to the day of your lesson. Any special arrangements or rescheduling should be done directly with the instructor.

Class Policies

General classes, which occur weekly, may be signed up for based on which days a student wants to attend. The listed price is for a student who signed up for the entire month and pays for all the days. Special classes which occur on certain, listed dates cannot be signed up for piecemeal, and students should plan to pay for and attend all the listed dates.

Students must sign up and pay for class in advance before they may attend. Class fees are paid to the shop via cash, check or credit card. Students may cancel their registration up to one week in advance of the beginning of the class and receive a full refund. Otherwise, classes are non-refundable.

Missing Class

If you plan to miss a class, inform your instructor as soon as possible. Credit for a missed class is offered at the discretion of the instructor, but refunds will not be offered if we are not notified one week before the class meeting.

Please Note

All classes, hours, and prices are subject to change. If class minimums are not met, classes may not be held. All classes have at least a 2-student minimum — some minimums may be higher.
